Big Rat – Entergy at Pilgrim

Entergy (also the owner at Vermont Yankee nuke that is currently operating without a license) at the Pilgrim Nuke has locked out the workers for not accepting a terrible contract. The workers (ok, scabs) who have been called in from around the country to cross the picket lines and do the union workers jobs, have their own issues too. They were brought in, but they have gone public with not knowing how to run the equipment at this particular nuke. And Entergy expects to TRUST them that they are keeping us safe and that they have the PUBLIC good at heart? Come on!!!

Entergy Rat

Entergy is a Rat – to the workers and to the public!!

Occupy – Nuclear Power

NUCLEAR POWER: AN IDEA WHOSE TIME IS OVER

Occupy is protesting the inequities that come from socializing risk onto the 99% and privatizing profits for the 1%. The collapse of housing and financial markets is a good example.

Nuclear power is another case of how the public pays for energy choices that favor corporate profits and control. Public dollars concentrate profits to nuclear corporations, warping energy choices to support centralized, capital intensive electric generation. Decentralized renewables and energy efficiency lose out. Read the rest of this entry »

VT bill asserts illegality of VY re-licensing

Vermont legislators from Windham County will hold a press conference on Tuesday April 26 at 1pm in the Cedar Creek Room of the Statehouse in Montpelier. Details will be released of a bill drafted by Rep. Dick Marek of Newfane. in response to Louisiana Entergy’s obvious intention to keep VY running past the expiration rate of it’s licenses- and absent a Certificate of Public Good and approval from the Vermont legislature. The gist of the bill will assert that VY is acting illegally to continue operations. As with all illegal activity, revenue derived from illegal activity is subject to capture by the state. Any business supporting illegal operations, such as supplies, are also subject to such financial sanctions.
